Client Contraindications
In general, Aromatherapy Massage is very safe when using appropriate dilutions and keeping in mind the clients age and health condition. Flo Aromatherapy properly dilutes each product taking the guess work out of it. However, there are some instances where it shouldn't be used, except with a doctors permission. This would include but not be limited too:
- Heart conditions, strokes, skin conditions, asthma, epilepsy, any acute conditions, cancer.
- The elderly and children, as these products are too high of a concentration for them.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Some Possible Side Effects Headache, nausea, dizziness, skin irritation. If a client has any unusual reaction advise them to drink lots of water, especially after the treatment, and seek medical attention if conditions persist.
Practitioner Safety
Remember that you too are being exposed to essential oils so here are some tips to help you safely enjoy using Aromatherapy in your massage practice.
- The working space used should have adequate ventilation, especially if it is a small space. Running an air purifier or opening a window between clients may be helpful.
- Take breaks between aromatherapy clients.
- Do not use yourself if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have any of the above contraindicated health conditions.
- Hand dermatitis is an occupational risk. If you start to develop hand dermatitis, you should consider using thin plastic disposable gloves for massage until it subsides. In the meantime, visit a dermatologist to find out which oil may be the cause. Individuals with a history of atopic dermatitis should be wary of using aromatherapy products.
