The use of essential oils during pregnancy is a controversial topic and one that is yet to be fully understood. The main concern during pregnancy appears to be the risk of essential oil constituents crossing over into the placenta. Due to the lack of clear information regarding the toxicity of essential oils during pregnancy, it would be best to adhere to general safety guidelines.
Essential Oils NOT To Be Used
According to aromatherapy experts, the following essential oils should not be used during pregnancy, labour and while breastfeeding.
Aniseed, Basil ct.estragole, Bay (Laurel), Birch, Carrot Seed, Cinnamon bark, Camphor, Fennel (bitter), Fennel (sweet), Hyssop, Jasmine, Lavender (Spanish), Myrrh, Oak Moss, Parsley seed or leaf, Pennyroyal, Rue, Sage, Tansy, Tarragon, Wintergreen, Wormwood
The above is not an exhaustive list but provides guidance as to the type of oils that should not be used during pregnancy.
